Broadcaster Migration to IT Infrastructure

Matthew S. Goldman, President of SMPTE will lead an in-depth tutorial on IT architectures and provide an industry overview of the state of play. He will give an overview of the challenges that broadcasters face, the benefits of transforming to “All IP”, a high-level overview of what exactly is meant by “All IP”, then dive deeper into the technologies themselves, followed by an overview of the major standards beyond “All IP”. The current state of the industry will be reviewed and what’s to be done next.

As broadcasters’ current technology reaches end-of-life, what would prevent or enable a transition to a full IP facility? Paul Broderick, Chair of SMPTE Australia Section will lead this discussion about the central site infrastructure, and recognising that an IP workflow could be implemented in your own hardware, in a private cloud, or a public cloud or some amalgam of the three. Has technology matured to the point where the full IP facility is possible, and how do we build the skills to make this happen?
Innovating for Sports Fans – Sports Broadcasting Technology Update

This interactive panel session will focus on the latest technology developments in sports broadcasting in Australia, including remote production workflows, immersive and interactive technology, wearables, data analytics and artificial intelligence in sports, and OTT video delivery at scale. The session will feature short technology presentations from industry leaders followed by a panel discussion and an opportunity for audience Q&A.
The biennial SMPTE Conference, staged by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers Australia Section, will be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Darling Harbour, Sydney from July 18 to 20.
