FSM Completes Controversial Documentary
FSM
has recently completed post-production on The President Versus David
Hicks, to air on SBS Television on March 18. FSM’s Fire and
Da Vinci compiled and graded the Australian documentary by AFI Award
winning filmmaker Curtis Levy at their facilities in Northbridge.
The world premiere of the film about the 26 year old, who cannot
be seen or heard, locked in the legal limbo that is Guantanamo Bay,
will launch a new weekly Australian documentary strand, Storyline
Australia, on SBS. Levy and co-director, Brent Dean, from SBS Dateline,
spent many months researching David Hick’s life before his
arrest and imprisonment in Guantanamo Bay. Using for the first time
the surprisingly eloquent letters David wrote to his family and
friends as a “map” for the documentary, the program
then follows Hick’s father, Terry, as he journeys through
Afghanistan to meet the members of the Taliban who fought with his
son and the Northern Alliance commander who captured him. Never
having travelled beyond Australia, Terry Hicks traces his son’s
footsteps in an attempt to understand what has happened to him.
Through his father’s determination and David Hick’s
own words we come to know him and to begin to understand him.
