Atlab and Omnilab Finish Gettin' Square

Atlab has finished the post-production of the upcoming Australian feature film and trailer, Gettin' Square, a comedy drama revolving around the Gold Coast underworld.
After completing the rushes on location in Queensland, Atlab was also responsible for the digital opticals, compositing, and grading of the movie.
The brief from director, Jonathan Teplitzky (Better than Sex) and producers Martin Fabinyi, Tim White, and Trish Lake, was to maintain the strong visual style that infuses the Aussie caper movie.

Atlab Sydney's General Manager, Anthos Simon, adds, "Client briefs vary for every film we work on, and Gettin' Square was no exception. There were challenges to meet, but we worked very hard and achieved what the client was after."
Digital Supervisor, Robert Sandeman, used Shake for all the compositing and titles, and the ArriLaser recorded the film. 4K scanning was used to import data for the digital work and Colourist, Olivier Fontenay (Breaking The Waves and Underground), completed the grading to heighten the film's visual moods and emotions.
Olivier states, "It is so important to try to get at exactly what the director and DP want from a strong creative perspective, but with the help of the digital tools we now have, we managed very well."

Omnilab Takes Titles

Omnilab division, mesh22 completed the opening title sequence for the soon-to-be-released Australian movie with a slick but subtle treatment for application over the first five minutes of the film's narrative.
The brief from director, Jonathan Teplitzky and producers Martin Fabinyi, Tim White, and Trish Lake, was to create a strong title design that would complement rather than distract from the action simultaneously being played out during the first five minutes of the film.
The result was simple, stylish and innovative mobile titles that are unmistakable even as action occurs across, behind, beside, and above them.
As the drama unfolds titles are introduced using standard cuts ands dissolves. To add interest subtle wipes were used to integrate the type with live action. In the final shot, the director's name tracks with camera across a vortex of cyclone wire, and eventually transposes in a square pinwheel motif into the title of the film.
"As the first five minutes are crucial to set up the plot, it was essential that the title sequence enhance the opening of the film, providing information needed as well as visual interest," said Jonathan Teplitzky. "We wanted a fresh, distinctive design that kept readability alive throughout the sequence and mesh22 created a new font and effects that were exactly what was required."
The first screenplay to be written by Gold Coast lawyer and author, Chris Nyst, Gettin' Square is a tongue-in-cheek comedy drama revolving around the Gold Coast underworld. Its storyline follows a group of small-time crooks trying to go straight who find themselves pitted against all the high-tech resources of the newly formed Crimes Investigation Commission.
The film stars David Wenham, Sam Worthington, UK actor Timothy Spall, Freya Stafford, Gary Sweet, David Field, and Helen Thomson. The film will be released on the 9th of October 2003.
