Media 100 has Adelaide Prophecy
Operating from a new purpose-built suite at Kent Town in Adelaide,
prophecy post has installed a Media 100 844/Xe edit and compositing
system.
Tom Molnar, owner/operator of prophecy post, is one of Adelaide's
best known editors. With 20 years experience in the broadcast industry,
Tom's choice of the 844/Xe was based on the need for a high-end
system with real time capabilities.
"Slow rendering is what clients and operators don't need in the
post production environment. With the 844/Xe and its 8 layers of
video and mattes in real time, I can concentrate on creativity with
my client, without continually waiting for long renders to finish."
His work spans many types of projects and budgets for clients that
include advertising agencies, producers and directors. This new
facility will allow prophecy post to deliver what Tom's clients
have been asking for.
"Clients need options. You can get a great job finished on any machine
if you are willing to pay for it - typically $700+ per hour - or
wait for it to render," stated Tom.
"I am offering a service that caters to clients who need a high
quality product at a cost effective price. At prophecy post, I can
utilise the same filters, plug-ins and effects that other high end
systems use, giving clients a customised service with no compromise,
working at speed and quality unmatched. In addition, the work is
enhanced by my many years of post experience."
Tom Molnar has experience across the whole gamut of editing and
post-production systems and saw 844/X offering key advantages for
his clients.
"I have used my own editing system, as well as many other systems
in the past," said Tom, "but with the need for effects driven, multi-layered
finished products, typically meant moving or loosing the job. I
can now deliver the final product 'under one roof' from pre-production
and off-line to on-line finishing including grading, colour correcting,
graphics and effects design."
New Post-Production Clients
As well as satisfying the needs of existing clients, prophecy post
will reach out for new clients who need high quality post-production.
prophecy can deliver a service that clients expect from a world-class
facility.
The 844/X system can deliver uncompromised 10-bit, uncompressed
video integrating editing and effects with lightning fast compositing
of unlimited layers. The system is ideal for client-supervised environments
where the producer/director works with the editor/compositor and
where deadlines are tight. The system shines with complex, multi-layer
work.
With almost 8 weeks work booked from the outset, the 844/Xe system
at prophecy post is off to a flying start. This work, involving
bringing jobs from off-line to completion, was undertaken with existing
clients because Tom believes they felt confident with 844/Xe technology
and with bringing all the editing and post-production effects work
in-house.
"844/Xe was ideal for prophecy post," stated Mark Richards, Managing
Director of Adimex, the Australian distributor for 844/X. "Tom had
the skill and the clients, but was hampered by his current equipment.
844/Xe not only allows him to complete the whole post process in-house,
but gives him an upgrade path as requirements for HD emerge."
The 844/X HD implementation allows 844/X customers to continue to
utilise the system they know and expand to HD. The HD Option supports
SD and HD in the same box, and supports all major HD and SD formats.
This will enable prophecy post to support their clients as their
needs change. In addition, 844/X's open architecture and support
for industry standards such as QuickTime and OMF will allow Prophecy
to deliver a wider range of jobs. Whether the client requests SD,
HD, CD, DVD, Internet video or even video for new hand-helds and
mobile phones, prophecy post can deliver.
"844/X's HD support will allow us to say 'yes we can' when customers
ask us to accept HD tapes or deliver to HD formats," said Tom. "We
also work closely with audio post facilities using ProTools, so
OMF support is important to us when moving jobs to these systems.
The interoperatability with graphics software like Photoshop and
After Effects is fantastic. Importing these layered files retains
their characteristics, and they are ready for manipulating, in real
time, including a variety of transfer modes. The delivery flexibility
of the system is great."
Prophecy Post will also act as a 'finishing' facility for Avid and
Finial Cut Pro users who can bring in their work as OMF files or
EDLs and then finish on the 844/X system.
"One of the reasons I purchased 844/Xe after a lengthy and exhaustive
evaluation of available systems, was the rapid upgrade path," explained
Tom. "I've talked to the 844/X Developers in America, and was very
impressed at the long term commitment, support and development of
the product. It really is the tip of the iceberg. With each upgrade,
844/X has leaped ahead and there is no sign of this slowing down.
I am already running version 2 software and can't wait for my XBLUR
option to arrive, enabling me to experiment with glows, blurs and
many other amazing compositing effects, creatively in real time
for my clients."
