Mesh Mobile With Amoisonic

Australian post house mesh22 has completed a major visual effects project for Shanghai-based production company, Flirting Pictures and Australian production company, Luscious International.
The series of TVCs, entitled "Reincarnation", comprise of 1 x 60, 2 x 30, 2 x 15 second spots with soundtracks scored by Ramesh Sathiah. They will be aired across Europe and South East Asia to launch the first in a new line of high-end mobile phones for Amoisonic Electronics Company Limited, a major manufacturer and supplier of consumer electronics in China.
The TVCs represented a challenging assignment, with Richard Swan (Creative Director at mesh22), working arm in arm with Australian director, Richard Gibson (Luscious International). The brief was epic, with a storyline part 'Gladiator,' part 'Cleopatra,' and part 'Minority Report.'

The multinational nature of the project made it essential that the visual narratives created would communicate across diverse cultures, to ensure that the hero and heroine of the spot embodied the universal attributes of the masculine and feminine phones respectively. It was therefore necessary that mesh22 approach the story from a number of cultural perspectives.
Work on the "Reincarnation" TVCs by mesh22 design direction, graphics, matte paintings for environments and set extensions, as well as 3D and compositing. A core team of designers and artists from the mesh22 team who have been built up over the last 12 months to handle creative and technical projects of this scale, were gathered together for the task.

Steve Leacey (Vfx Supervisor, the LaB sydney) led a team of vfx artists including, Drew Downes, Ben O'Brien and Matthew Unwin who work across mesh22 and the LaB, whilst Linda Lum produced the job - her largest project to date since joining the mesh22 ranks.
Richard Gibson provided direction on master shots early in the project and feedback on style frames. He then left the mesh22 team to work their magic. The flame suite ran day and night, with smoke providing support for conforming and integrating presentation material, as well as for clean up and test composites.

The design team utilised the studio's MACs to work up style frames, matte paintings and textures for 3D and After Effects for animating elements to be overlayed into scenes, while also designing and animating elements for the corporate logo.
Following telecine grading in C-Reality at the LaB Sydney with colourist Ben Eagleton, some live action elements were re-graded in flame to help blend live action foreground elements with the digitally created background elements, helping to make those shots sit better into the rest of the cut.
The end creative product captured the visuals required by the brief while remaining true to the beautiful imagery of the location.
