NETWORK TEN AUTOMATES WITH ENCODA
SYDNEY
Network Ten has selected Encoda's DAL Channel Manager A7500 automation
system and DAL Ingest Automation Manager A8800 to help meet the
challenge of digital broadcasting. The network's new playout system
will handle multiple outputs carrying feeds tailored for each of
TEN's metropolitan centres including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane,
Adelaide, and Perth.
"After a thorough assessment and testing program, we chose Encoda
Systems to provide the transmission automation system to control
the network's complex digital broadcast facility," said Darren Farnham,
Broadcast Centre Manager at Network Ten. "Key factors were high
reliability, a powerful operator interface, and a flexible architecture
capable of managing the future needs of Network Ten as we evolve."
Encoda's A7500 and A8800 offer combined support - within a single
automation system - for multichannel operation requiring coordinated
origination and control. Implementing the DAL Channel Manager A7500
with dual operator workstations and control panels, Network Ten
can more easily execute a centralised broadcast model, providing
government-mandated high definition broadcasts while maintaining
existing analog services and feeds to affiliate broadcasters throughout
Australia.
The A7500 allows one operator to monitor many channels with both
visual and tactile control points. The system is flexible and scalable,
creating an uninterrupted flow of information between traffic, material
management, and on-air automation. In addition to enhanced signal
monitoring functions and a variety of storage management tools,
the A7500's unique dual-redundant architecture ensures transmission
will never be interrupted by failure of an automation computer.
Network Ten's new DAL Ingest Automation Manager A8800 from Encoda
features three ingest workstations. The A8800 allows the network's
operators to control the transfer of program and interstitial material
from tape by dubbing new material onto a video server, managing
the compilation and transfer of taped material.
Amtech Australia, the Encoda Systems distributor, provided engineering
and support services for the installation.
