Masters
Serves with Omneon
Omneon Video Networks today has extended its presence in the Asia/Pacific
market with the opening of new regional offices in Singapore and
Hong Kong and the creation of new sales and service positions to
provide dedicated support to clients in the region.
Charged with leadership of this region and responsibility for the
new offices is Eric Masters, who has been appointed to the role
of vice president for Asia/Pacific sales. The new regional offices
complement the company’s Japan office opened in Tokyo earlier
this year and a growing systems integrator network across the region.
Masters brings a number of years of industry experience to his new
role with Omneon. His previous roles have all been in the Asia/Pacific
region and included director-level positions with Quantel Asia Pacific
and Quantel Australia, as well as the managing director role at
Tekniche Asia Pacific.
Dayang Burns with Karlton
Karlton Burn, ex-managing director of Leitch Asia has become the
president and CEO of Dayang International. Based in Hong Kong, he
will be in charge of all markets, except China.
Dayang is the biggest broadcast manufacturer in China and is looking
to Burn to help it grow internationally.
Thibault
Gets Avid
Avid Technology has announced the appointment of Stephane Thibault
as its Regional Director for Southeast Asia, Korea and Australia
& New Zealand. He will be working with the regional team from
Avid’s Asian Headquarters in Singapore.
“ We are very pleased to welcome Stephane to the Avid Team,”
said Andrew Thornton, Vice President, Asia Pacific Sales and Operations
for Avid Technology. “We are confident Stephane’s experience
and background in the industry will further our presence and results
in our key markets.”
Stephane is not new to the industry. Located in Singapore for over
10 years, he has had nine years experience as Regional Sales Director
for Pinnacle Systems Singapore regional headquarters prior to his
new role and before that was the Sales Manager with a developer
and manufacturer of high-end graphic workstations in France and
Singapore.

said Thibault “Broadcasters and industry professionals are

Thibault has a Master degree in International Marketing from Weller
international Business School (France) and is fluent in English
and French.
Middleton to Manage CASBAA Singapore
The Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA)
has announced the appointment of Henry K. Middleton as CASBAA General
Manager, Singapore & Southeast Asia.
The new position will encompass the Association's relationships
with government, member organisations and the multi-channel television
and broadband industries as a whole, as well as building on a CASBAA
decision in 2003 to formally open an office in Singapore.
" This is a big step forward for the Association. It reflects
general industry growth and the ever-growing importance of Singapore
as the region's communications hub," said Marcel Fenez, the
Chairman of CASBAA. "Henry's breadth of knowledge of the pay-TV
industry, including regulatory, business development and promotional
issues, will be invaluable."
The appointment of Middleton comes as CASBAA announces new memberships
and upgraded participation in the Association by 13 companies.
Patron memberships taken out by Taiwan-based cable TV MSO Eastern
Multimedia Corp. and broadcaster SPE (AXN/Animax), plus upgrades
to Patron status by HBO Asia and Walt Disney Television International,
have added four new seats to the CASBAA Council of Governors and
adds significant weight to the Association's role as an influential
industry spokesman.
The two new Patron memberships - and new Corporate memberships taken
out by Harmonic Asia Pacific, Bird & Bird, International Launch
Services, iMediaHouse, Music Choice and Clifford Chance, plus upgrades
to Corporate level by SkyCable of the Philippines, Synovate of Hong
Kong and BT of the UK - are an endorsement of the Association's
role in promoting and growing the cable and satellite industry in
Asia.
" These additional memberships strengthen CASBAA's position
as an umbrella organization acting for the common good of the multi-channel
cable, broadband and satellite industries and assists with our representation
to the public, customers and policy makers," said Mr Fenez.
" With our enhanced services, including the on-going dialogue
with the advertising industry, our anti-piracy activities, the drive
towards the further deployment of digital services, our research
initiatives and the greater participation of individual members
via our committee system we see CASBAA playing an ever more important
role on behalf of the industry and its constituents," said
Simon Twiston Davies, CEO, CASBAA.
Lam for RadioScape Asia-Pacific
Digital Radio technology company, RadioScape, has appointed William
Lam as the head of its Asia Pacific operations. He will be based
in the company's new offices in Singapore, where he will be responsible
for the company's broadcast products sales in Asia Pacific. He will
also be establishing a new office in Hong Kong to service RadioScape's
customers throughout the region.
“ William has been in the Asia-Pacific market for many years
and has been a leading figure promoting the digital broadcasting
industry,” said RadioScape CEO John Hall. “His experience
will be invaluable in providing local support and expertise for
our growing number of customers in this strategically important
region.”
Lam comes to RadioScape from 3A DigiComm Technology, where he was
the General Manager and was responsible for digital broadcasting
technology in the Asia-Pacific. He previously worked for Harris
Corporation as Director of Business Development, Hirschmann Asia-Pacific
as General Sales Manager, Tektronix as Market Development Manager
and Rohde & Schwarz UK as Sales Manager.
O’Hanlon to Head Star Production
STAR TV has announced the appointment of Paul O'Hanlon to the new
position of Senior Vice President, Production.
O'Hanlon will work with the company's local production teams in
continuing to advance the quality of its programming production
across the network. Based in Hong Kong, O'Hanlon reports to Steve
Askew, COO of STAR.
"Paul is a seasoned executive who has an impressive track record
in bringing high quality production values to programming with strict
fiscal discipline. Across our network we now have more than 25,000
hours of original production per annum and growing each year. Paul
will deploy his production expertise in our major markets and I
am confident that he will make a significant contribution in further
strengthening our local production and delivering strong results,"
said Askew.
"STAR has set an industry standard in programming production
and I look forward to using my skills to help build on an already
strong business," commented O'Hanlon. "I'm also very excited
by the prospect of working with the highly talented team at STAR."
O'Hanlon has extensive experience in television production, as an
Executive Producer, Programmer, Director and Consultant. His recent
production achievements include Australian Idol Concert Tour and
Australia Day Live, where he oversaw top Australian pop artists
performing live before 30,000 people and a viewing audience of 1.7
million. O'Hanlon has also been a consultant to Astro in Malaysia,
where, among other responsibilities, he identified production and
operational changes to improve efficiency and conceptualized new
programmes with the production teams.
Smale Departs Ambience Group
The Ambience Group today announced that Executive Producer Mark
Smale, has resigned his position at Ambience to pursue other interests.
"Ambience has been my home for over five years. I consider
myself extremely lucky to have worked with such a talented group
of people with whom it was such a joy to work," said Smale.
"Mark has played an vital part in the development and success
of Ambience over the last five years, and I wish him well in his
future endeavors," said Managing Director of the Ambience Group
Matthew Street.
Street also announced that David Taylor will oversee all advertising
agency and broadcast client relations as well as new business pitches.
Luxton
New VFX Producer for FSM
Frame, Set & Match is delighted to announce the appointment
of Whitney Luxton as VFX Producer for its newly expanded design
division.
Luxton joins FSM from Asylum Visual Effects, a leading VFX house
based in Los Angeles, where she worked on high profile US projects
from Studios such as Revolution and Paramount. As well as running
Asylum’s design team, Luxton’s client base included
feature films and major US agencies, as well as a continuous stream
of music video clients.
Luxton is excited to be returning home to Australia to work alongside
Design Director, Brendan Savage and Senior 3D Animator Michael Wynd,
who she believes are some of the most talented post experts in the
industry.
The new department has already completed projects for Foxtel Digital,
Rydges Resorts and Channel Nine. Luxton took up her new position
on May 17th.
Chelleri Takes Quantel for SE Asia
Alex Chelleri has been promoted to Head of Sales, South East Asia
for Quantel Asia Pacific. Based in Hong Kong, Alex will be responsible
for all of Quantel's sales activity across the region, as well as
partner and customer relations. He will also spearhead the company's
commercial plans in what is a highly competitive and burgeoning
marketplace. An Australian, Alex has been living and working in
Hong Kong for almost a decade.
Peter Davies Announced General Manager of Ambience Group
Matthew Street, Managing Director of the Sydney based Ambience
Group, has announced the appointment of Peter Davies to General
Manager, Ambience Group.
"With the rapid International developments in our business
I have decided to take a much greater role in developing these opportunities.
Our new business strategy is really now taking hold, so to free
up some of my time I have created this new role of General Manager
to run the day-to-day operations of Ambience" said Street.
Peter Davies joined Ambience as Head Producer in November 2003 with
over two decades of experience in both the Post-Production and live
action areas, working both locally and internationally. Prior to
joining Ambience, Peter's primary role was to establish and market
the boutique, greenfield high definition digital media production
studio "kotij". Peter was also one of the four founding
partners of Omnicon Digital, a service provider to the Australian
Film, Television, Advertising and Media Industry.
"Peter will oversee all Ambience projects and work closely
with our management team to consolidate and build on Ambience's
core business activities. We are confident that the business strategies
we have implemented over the last twelve months will continue to
reap rewards, we are particularly pleased with the results of our
offshore operations. We are fortunate to have a person of Peter's
hands-on experience and great reputation in our Industry to take
on this critical role within the Ambience Group" said Street.
Peter Davies added that "Ambience has assembled such a prodigious

of the business, breeding a culture which is energetic, collaborative,
open and very positive and I look forward to streamlining our operations
in order to fully exploit this."
David Donaldson Appointed GM For Atlab NZ
Atlab has announced that David Donaldson will take up the reins
as General Manager for Atlab New Zealand, replacing Bruce McArthur,
who has elected to downsize his role in the company to part-time
Sales Manager to spend more time on personal projects.
David Donaldson has worked in the post-production industry for 23
years, joining Colorfilm NZ in 1983, and holding the position of
Assistant Manager when Colorfilm became Atlab NZ in 1990. Donaldson
is eager to further extend his role at Atlab, saying, “I look
forward to the new opportunities afforded to me by this change.
The prospect of increased customer contact is particularly exciting
to me and I hope to use my strong technical background to help maintain
the high standards demanded within our industry.”
Bruce McArthur has lent his full support to David, adding: “David
has an excellent understanding of both laboratory and film technology
and his knowledge of the industry is extensive. I know he will be
a highly effective General Manager for Atlab NZ.”
