Cintel Opens AsiaPac Office
As part of their re-emergence as telecine leaders and recognising
the importance of the dynamic Asia Pacific post-production market,
Cintel has opened a new office which will cover SE Asia.
Based in Auckland, New Zealand Dave Marshall will become the dedicated
manager for the region and will be working in close liaison with
distributors such as Quinto Communications in Australia.
According to Adam Welsh, Managing Director at Cintel, "Working alongside
Cintel's Asia Pacific representatives, Dave will be aiming to ensure
post-production houses and facilities have the most up to date information
and advice on which to base their film scanning buying decisions.
Dave is extremely knowledgeable on a range of machines - including
DSX, C-Reality, Millennium and URSA - and will be able to keep users
up to date with the latest product enhancements and upgrades."

Long Marches To AFTRS
From March 3, Malcolm Long will take up the position of Director
of the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).
Long was deputy managing director at the ABC from 1991 to 1993,
before departing to head SBS. Since leaving SBS in 1997, he has
operated his own communications consultancy, Malcolm Long Associates.
He is also a part-time member of the Australian Broadcasting Authority.
He has also served as Chairman of the International Institute of
Communications (IIC). Malcolm Long is a Fellow of the Australian
Institute of Management, a former member of the Board of the National
Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), and was President of the Australian
Museum in Sydney from 1995-2000.
Long takes over from Rod Bishop.
Allgyer
Reaches Pinnacle Asia
Pinnacle Systems has announce the appointment of Warren Allgyer
as Managing Director in the Asia Pacific region.
"Mr. Allgyer brings a wealth of experience in the broadcasting business,
including in sales, marketing and operations," said Ajay Chopra,
President of the Broadcast & Professional Division at Pinnacle Systems.
"I am very pleased to have a person of Warren's caliber join us
to lead our B&P Asia Pacific organization. Warren joins Pinnacle
at an exciting time and his talent and extensive knowledge of the
broadcast space will significantly add to our expertise. His appointment
will give Pinnacle Systems increased management bandwidth to pursue
the Asian market."
Allgyer comes to Pinnacle from Kasenna a pre-IPO startup, where
he was VP of Worldwide Sales. Prior to that, he was President of
Panasonic Broadcast USA and before that VP of Panasonic Systems
Solutions business. He also coordinated Panasonic's sponsorship
of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Prior to Panasonic, Warren
Allgyer enjoyed over 20 years a career in broadcasting at the local
station, network station, and television network levels including
13 years at NBC in New York.
Adams
to Manage Quinto NZ
Quinto Communications has announced the appointment of Bryce Adams
as General Manager of Quinto Communications New Zealand.
Based in Auckland Bryce comes to Quinto from Panasonic New Zealand
where he was responsible for the sales of their broadcast products.
Prior to Panasonic, Bryce was employed by TVNZ, and has undertaken
numerous outside broadcast assignments with Sky TV, TV3 and OSB
in New Zealand.
According to Quinto's Managing Director Alan McIlwaine, "We are
very pleased to welcome Bryce to Quinto Communications. Bryce is
well known in the NZ broadcast fraternity and I am sure he will
be able to enhance our New Zealand business."
Quinto Communications New Zealand are the distributors for a range
of quality broadcast equipment from manufacturers such as Canon,
Evertz, Nucomm, Snell & Wilcox and Talia.
Doherty and Carroll Take On ABC Asia Pacific
ABC Managing Director Russell Balding has announced the appointment
of John Doherty and Ian Carroll to the senior management positions
at ABC Asia Pacific, the ABC’s international satellite television
service, which first broadcast on December 2001.
Ian Carroll takes up the position of Head Network and Programming
with responsibility for all network, operational and programming
matters. He believes that programming ABC Asia Pacific is a terrific
opportunity. ‘
"I am looking forward to further developing our programming
so that we have a strong audience among English speakers across
Asia and the Pacific as well as expatriate Australians," said
Carroll.
John Doherty becomes Head International Operations, responsible
for maximising service distribution and audience development, regional
marketing and sales and the further development of strategic alliances
in the region.
"It’s hard to believe that there are at least 150 international
channels out there," commented Doherty on his appointment.
"It’s quite a challenge to secure broadcasting arrangements
in such a tight, highly competitive market. However our considerable
success to date is based on two factors … the reputation of the
ABC as one of the world’s best public broadcasters and the strength
of our unique range of programming."
Evans Joins TAS
Production and post-production company, Television + Advertising
Services, has announced the addition of Paul Eveans as head of its
audio division.
Evans has over 25 years of industry experience, including stints
with such leading audio facilities as Tiger, Song Zu, David &
John and Audiobrien.
Evans will run TAS' new Fairlight Demonstration Audio Studio alongside
the company's exisiting Avid suites, graphics studios and production
services business.
"Having someone of the calibre of Paul Evans adds an extra
dimension of professionalism and experience to our already dynamic
team," said Managing Director Chris Glenfield. "In a tough
production market, our business is growing rapidly. Clients recognise

Lynch Adds Colour To Kotij
Renowned colourist, Warren Lynch, has joined Kotij in Sydney to
head up the telecine department. Warren has recently returned from
New Zealand where he worked as a Digital Cinema Colourist on Lord
of the Rings 2 "The Two
Towers".
Warren worked with Peter Jackson and The Posthouse NZ team, grading
the feature on Colourfront/Unix SGI workstations, producing the
entire film on negative as a digital intermediate.
Warren has an impressive pedigree having sharpened his colouring
toolset in 1976 at NBN Newcastle. Since then he has been the driving
force within a number of local and international facilities formerly
as an editor and more recently as one of this country's most experienced
in-demand colourists.
As a colourist, Warren has a number of major projects to his credit
including the feature films Resistance; Babe: Serenades; Moulin
Rouge; Children of the Dragon; Looking For Ali Brandi; Wanted; Strictly
Ballroom and the final reference grade for the DVD and HD release
of Lord of the
Rings "The Fellowship of the Ring" under the direction
of Andrew Lesney and Peter Doyle.
His television credits include Blue Murder; The Potato Factory;
The Leaving Of Liverpool; Police Rescue; Come in Spinner; Baywatch
Downunder; Doing time for Patsy Cline; and Balmain Boys.
Over the years, Warren has won a number of prestigious international
awards including a Penguin (UK) for Best Editing for Elton John's
"I'm still Standing"; Mobius (USA) for Best Editing and
Special Effects for Sydney Opera House 20th Anniversary and a series
of cinematography awards including Jury Prize winner at the Cannes
Film Festival for the short film, "Swinger" and grading
the Australian feature film, The Piano.
According to AAV CEO, Ted Gregory, Warren Lynch is an enormous asset
to Kotij and his talents will be promoted within AAV's Digital Pictures
Network.
BSA Takes On Tandberg
Australian company, bsa has announced it will be working with Tandberg
Television to act as a Systems Integrator for its products and services.
The relationship continues a growth strategy for bsa and will see
the company working closely with the local Tandberg Australia office
for commercial and technical support.
Both companies believe the relationship will enhance opportunities
and support to their customers.
Christiansen Soldiers Onto Comcopy
Christian Christiansen has joined Comcopy Sydney as Manager with
a wealth of business experience in the professional recording media
industry, most recently with Sony Australia as NSW Sales Manager.
Christian's qualifications include a Masters of Economics and Business
Administration and he has over eight years practical experience
in senior account management roles. According to the company, he
will be an invaluable asset to the Comcopy business.
